Most people who blog managed to get their New Year/end of year summary post done on time, i.e. on 1 January. Not me: I was editing and retouching the two maternity and family sessions I'd shot on 22 and 23 December, so I'm afraid ours is a little late.
2015 was the year that we had a huge change in our personal professional lives. Valerie and I had been teachers, most recently working in international schools. We spent the last few years living and working in India and SE Asia, primarily teaching but also doing a significant amount of portrait and family photography. It goes without saying that being in that part of the world also gives you endless opportunities for amazing travel photography, if that's your thing.
When we decided to make the move back to the UK we also decided to make a big change to our professional lives: becoming full-time photographers. We're now running a photography studio in Corsham, Wiltshire - we're very pleasantly located seven miles from Bath and couldn't be happier with the change in our lives.
The second half of 2015 was taken up with finding a house with a studio we could work out of, getting the business off the ground, and getting the work visible to lots of people. 2016 is going to be spent growing our business. We'll be branching out a bit to include a maternity/newborn brand called Just Newborn, shooting some weddings, as well as continuing with our fine art portraiture and personal branding work. Most importantly, we're looking forward to meeting lots of new and interesting people, and enjoying our new life here in SW England.
It definitely hasn't been a bump-free journey so far, and there will be further obstacles along the way, the same as there are for everyone. So let me take this opportunity to wish you the very best for 2016 - life, love and happiness to us all!
