Take one of our photography courses and you'll get to know your camera better and be taking great photographs in no time. Working with well-qualified, knowledgable tutors and other like-minded people, you'll have a great time doing something fun, useful and rewarding. The photography courses are based in and around Bath: perfect for people who live in the South West of England or those who want to visit this gorgeous part of the country. how it works

Our courses are a mixture of individual and in-group sessions (max. 3). The fine art photography, neon and editing courses are generally group sessions, with all others taught individually. For an individual course, click here to book, then liaise with us over dates. We will design a course which works well for you, and can adapt everything to suit your needs. We’re able to cover most aspects of photography and editing (Lightroom & Photoshop). All other scheduled sessions can be viewed and booked via the products page.

beginners’ digital photography

Recently bought a new camera or been given one as a present? No idea what to do aside from leave the camera on Auto and shoot? Then this course is right for you. We cover the basics of digital photography so you can move from Auto mode and start to produce creative and beautiful photography you love. This course is based between classroom and on location, and you'll leave with plenty of useful reference materials. Refreshments are on tap throughout the day.

If you want to learn how to blur the background in your images, up your game with landscape shooting and get some help with composition in your images, this is the course for you!

During the beginners' course you'll learn about:

  • Focus - an introduction to this topic, making sure your photos are tack sharp every time

  • Lenses - learn about how different lenses can give you more creativity with your photography

  • Shooting modes - we'll explain the main shooting programmes (like aperture priority) so you understand the top dial of your camera

  • F-stops - how to use aperture creatively in your images and get that elusive background blur

intermediate digital photography

The intermediate course is the perfect experience if you've already got to grips with the basic functions of your camera and are now looking to produce more exciting and creative photography. We look at how shutter speed affects your photographs, so you are able to get great action shots of your children, sports or wildlife. We also cover photographing into backlight, using composition creatively and how to use your camera's manual mode. In order to get the most from this course, you'll ideally be using a camera that allows full manual control - if your camera does not allow this, we can lend you one that does. Refreshments are included throughout the day.

During the intermediate course you'll learn about:

  • Metering - understand how your camera creates the perfect exposure

  • Exposure compensation - how to over-ride the camera's metering to get great images

  • Shutter speeds - how to control the camera's shutter speed to freeze fast action or get creative blur in fast-paced shots. Learn how to capture sports and action

  • Manual exposure - an introduction to this 'dark art' of controlling your camera (it's actually not a dark art)

  • Composition - how to develop the 'art' of photography. You'll also learn about the rule of thirds and the best ways to shoot landscapes, people and objects
