We take a series of images of your son or daughter, designed to show the 'real' them.
Our children's fine art portraits are shot in a classic style, using time-honoured lighting and posing techniques. We take our lead from the Old Masters - there is a very good reason why beautiful paintings are enjoyed centuries after they were made, and this has to do with lighting, posing and connection.
The pre-consultation is an integral part of our process - we meet with you (and your child if you wish) before the portrait session to find out what kind of images you would like. This means that you come away with beautiful photographs that you'll absolutely love.
Your children's portraits will be of them - not a 'version' of them that is a front for the camera. The aim is to produce natural images that capture your child's essence, without having to use forced expressions. Of course, if smiling is what your child likes to do naturally, absolutely no problem!
The clothing your child wears for their portrait session is your choice completely. If you would like it, we can help you with those choices - we also work with hair stylists who can help girls look their very best.
We have a beautiful photography studio in Corsham, Wiltshire, and are about 9 miles outside of Bath. Your child's session will take 1-2 hours, and that gives us enough time to take photographs with 2-3 different looks. If you choose to have a hair stylist, your daughter can come away with a beautiful variety of photographs.
In a crowded marketplace, we work very hard to make sure we are producing work which is original in style, exciting, and something you'll want to look at and enjoy for many years. We sometimes use a lighting style similar to movie lighting - combined with the wind machine used in Isabella's photo (above), it can create a gorgeous sense of dynamism.
These images are designed to be hung on your walls, and we specialise in super-high quality printed portraiture. The simple lighting and posing styles are a deliberate move to ensure our work is not subject to the vagaries of passing fads. This is portraiture designed to be enjoyed for decades - everything we supply is of archival quality and manufactured by craftsmen in England.
The most time-consuming part of the overall process is the editing, or retouching. This ensures that your child looks their best in the finished work. We do not do any radical or distasteful 'Photoshopping' - we will colour-balance the pictures, remove any flyaway hairs and any other obvious blemishes, and carry out some processing to give the images a fine art feel.
When all the editing is done, you'll be invited to come and view your images at our studio in Corsham. We can help you choose the most effective images for your needs, and you'll be able to see a selection in both colour and black & white. We can also advise you on the most suitable products for your home, if you need us to.
